VR2RL (2018)

Picture
VR2RL is a live performance which was created in collaboration with artist Jia Zhao. The two artists are inspired by meeting one another inside a virtual world. In the VR encounter, the artists embodied two female avatars who were sitting together on the same virtual chair. The bodies of these avatars moved according to a given animated script which is attached to the chair. Inspired by the movement of their avatars, the artists reenact the animated script in real life. Each of the physical bodies is supposedly attached to her own chair as they follow the series of predetermined movements. Together-alone they seamlessly swift from movements of a pleasant conversation to other movements which depict hard core sex. The piece is aimed to ask questions in regard to social connections which are formed within virtual platforms and the way they impact our social environment as we know it in real-life. Despite not identifying as LGBTQI, the virtual platform enabled the artists to explore a different kind of a sexual connection between them as an additional facet of their identity.
