Peekaboo (2023)

Playing Peekaboo with a generative AI, this piece aims to open a discussion about identity politics. How does a person see themselves? How do we see each other? How does an AI model see us? Though the piece acknowledges the dangers of identity tourism, and tries to unravel systematic biases within the AI model, it also resists notions of permanence within identity structures. The bodies featured in this artwork try to perform their way outside of a definitional framework, to investigate the potential for change, and go beyond local embodiments of an ideology of bodies which are tightly pinned to a grid of identities.
